FROM MS. TRUEMAN
Did you know that In North Carolina, 1 in 4 children is at risk of hunger? The Backpack Buddies Program at A.B. Combs provides children from food-insecure homes with weekend meals during the school year. The children receive a backpack containing six balanced meals and two healthy snacks a the end of every week. With your continued help, our school has sponsored 20 children who receive backpacks full of food each week from Interfaith Food Shuttle or our own school pantry. Our annual food drive will benefit Combs students directly & our community partner, Interfaith Food Shuttle Backpack Buddies Program.
The food drive starts Monday, November 21st and runs through Friday, December 2nd. Each classroom is challenged to collect 50 items of food! (Start picking up extra cans of food each week as you go to the grocery store in the month of November!)
Most needed items: Shelf Stable Milk and Canned Meat, Canned fruits, canned vegetables, noodles, small boxes of cereal, 100% juice boxes & healthy snacks are also welcome. Items NOT to bring include pop-tarts, cookies, juice pouches, sugary cereals, candy, soft top applesauce/fruit/jello, and spam/Vienna sausage.
Thank you for helping our kids at our school & Interfaith Food Shuttle! We will synergize together to help many students!
* We could also use plastic grocery bags ;)

FROM THE LIBRARY
Great news--Combs students are LEADERS in READING! So far this year, we have an average of 250 books returned to the library every day, with even more books being checked out! This is an increase from last year and we are excited our students are taking advantage of our wonderful collection of books! We want to see this increase in circulation continue, but with this increase comes a greater need for volunteers in the library. Those 250+ books have to be returned to the shelves and made available for other students to take home. Ms. Headley and Ms. Ray would love to have some regular help each week. What does that mean? Whatever amount of time you can commit to shelving books each week will help! For instance, if you come early to pickup for carpool, you can leave your car in the line and come in to shelve for a bit, maybe choosing to come in each Monday. You could also come after dropping off your child in the morning one day a week. Choose what is convenient for your schedule!
Thank you for supporting our efforts to create life-long readers! Contact Ms. Ray ([email protected]) or Ms. Headley ([email protected]) OR just drop by the library anytime to talk to them about volunteering
